A Simple Change. A Stronger Australian Identity.

Introducing the AU Australia Flags

AUflag.au primary purpose is to help effect a change in the Australian National Flag ie by the removal of the UK Union Jack in the canton; the rest of the flag as is, excepting with a sky blue background.

The UK Union Jack Flag has a magnificent design BUT it is the national flag of another country and we would be better served with a flag design more indicative of our identity and pride in our independent nation.

AU recognised internationally as Australia

With about 4.4 million .au internet domain names registered, including .com.au; .gov.au; .edu.au and other .au domains. Registration commenced in Australia in 1986 but website traffic has rapidly increased in the past 30 years.

Additionally, AU is the country code for ISO International Standards Organisation; AUD for the Australian Dollar and AU is the chemical code for gold.

AU Green & Gold - our National Colours

Officially “proclaimed” in 1984 by the Governor General upon instruction by the then PM Bob Hawke. Used by our National Sporting teams since 1899 starting with the Australian Cricket Team tour of England.

The colours are featured in every national; national team including the Olympics. Since the introduction in Australia of colour TV in 1964 there has been massive publicity world wide cementing the Green & Gold colours into the Australian pyche as a source of national pride.

Some new Australian Flag Proposals

Post Colonial Flags - Australia ?

Time for a 100% Australian Flag?

It’s the ultimate constitutional irony: our politicians can be disqualified for being dual citizens, yet our own flag proudly displays the emblem of another nation.

The Union Jack is a brilliant flag, but it isn’t ours. Pinning another country’s identity to our own doesn’t reflect the independent, outward-looking nation we’ve become. Australia is a vibrant, inclusive country with a unique story to tell—from our ancient First Nations history to our modern multicultural society.

We need a symbol that unites us all. It’s time to retire the “dual national” and raise a flag that is completely, proudly, and undeniably Australian.

What are we missing out on?

True Independence: A mature, outward-looking nation doesn’t borrow its primary symbol from across the globe.

Real Inclusion: A flag should represent everyone who calls this land home, fully acknowledging our First Nations people and the diverse cultures that make up modern Australia.

A Unifying Identity: A new flag isn’t about erasing history; it’s about writing the next chapter. It’s a rare, once-in-a-generation opportunity to unite the country behind a modern symbol we can all own.
